Grayson Highlands State Park is becoming a popular destination for those looking for alpine meadows, wild ponies, and world-class bouldering (thanks to recent developments by Granola ambassador Aaron Parlier). The parks rolling alpine meadows offer views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. That is, unless your view is obstructed by wild ponies, flowering rhododendron, or exposed high country boulders, none of which are unsightly. If that is not enough to convince you to visit the Highlands, then please, continue scrolling toward enlightenment.
Be sure to find yourself on the Highlands during sunset. As the sun settles to the west it casts its last rays of light upon the Blue Ridge Mountains to give about a half an hour of picturesque beauty. Be sure to pack your headlamp to enjoy every minute of the quickly fleeting light.
