My Grandfathers solution to summer heat.

Granola Products

My father, Rodney Scott, was born in Decatur, Alabama. His family, the Scotts, were well known in Northern Alabama. His grandfather, Columbus Scott, was a farmer and he made Moonshine. Two of my Dad's uncles, Clinton and Cord, worked for BellSouth, and sold Moonshine out of the trunk of their cars. After that the other five brothers brothers; Carmel, Foy, Parks, Macon, and Ollie all worked for BellSouth. As the story goes, it wasn't know as BellSouth in Northern Alabama, it was called- The Scott Company. The brothers worked on the farm growing up then, put up telephone poles and hung lines, all in the dire heat of Alabama.

I remember going to Alabama as a kid, we would pull off of the interstate and my brother and I could see the heat waves glimmering off the road. We never wanted to get out of the car, we wanted to keep the AC running. "Get out and get some of this on ya!" my Dad would say. My dad thought our complaints about the heat were hilarious. He told us a story of when he was a kid and he would hate going anywhere if there weren't Air Conditioning. His dad also found amusement in this, he told my dad-"hell son when I was a kid it was so hot, and we didn't have Air Conditioning, I used to have to sleep in the creek!". His go to creek ran right through their farm. Every time I go to a swimming hole, I think about that funny story. Sometimes the only way to truly cool off in the summer, is in your favorite swimming hole. Here are some of our favorite swimming holes, stay cool this summer.
