Paris Climate Agreement

Granola Products

Today, we are deeply saddened that the United States has removed itself from the Paris Agreement. An agreement, to form an optimistic partnership, with a mutual goal of protecting our environment for future generations. 195 countries, agreed to set their own goals, toward reducing carbon output. When we jeopardize a healthy environment, we jeopardize outdoor recreation. We endanger the very places that allow us to do what we love. Without these places, we wouldn’t even have the outdoor industry. Policy makers have failed their constituents and it is now up to us as both a company and individuals organize and mobilize around environmental stewardship. At the end of the day, an old adage rings true, “Nature bats last”. This fight is won from the actions of individuals.

“If you write a letter, please consider typing it on an 8 1/2 by 11-inch sheet of paper. If you hand-write your letter, please consider using pen and writing as neatly as possible.”

“Wait a minute, what does that do, they will just ignore it?”

Actually, your representative and senators, work for you! Their office has to respond to any concerns their constituents voice. Meaning, they will respond to your letter! We promise!

"When you have an established scientific truth, it is true whether or not you believe in it or not. The sooner you understand that, the faster we can get on with the political conversations about how to solve the problems that face us"- Neil Degrasse Tyson                                                                                                                                                                                                                               You might be surprised that, here at Granola, we are not Political experts, we are not climate scientist. However, as people, and specifically people who run an outdoor brand, the livability of our planet is paramount to us. Climate change is disrupting life every day whether you acknowledge the reality of it or not. Today "Marches for Science" will be happening all over the country to raise awareness for climate change, and to demonstrate the public opinion on climate issues to politicians and citizens nationwide. We would like to invite everyone who would like to see bold action against climate change, the greatest threat this planet has ever faced, to get out today and peacefully demonstrate. Follow the link below, to find a march near you-

Here is some recent data on the current impacts of climate change. Always remember, nature bats last, it isn't about being a 'Treehugger' we are threatening the survival of our grandchildren.

  • On average, 27 million people are displaced by climate- and weather- related disasters each year – roughly equivalent to the population of Ghana and more than Australia’s entire population. In 2012, however, 31.7 million people were displaced by weather- and climate- related disasters. That’s one person every second, and roughly three times the number of refugees fleeing war or persecution.
  • In the last six years, 2% of the world's population have been displaced by climate- and weather- related disasters, totalling a staggering 119.4 million people – a number slightly larger than the entire population of Mexico.
  • 2013 broke the record for people displaced by storms, with 14.2 million people forced from their homes.
  • In the ten countries affected by both conflict- and disaster-induced displacement in 2013, natural hazards displaced five times more people than armed conflict.
  • According to a random survey of over 30,000 people in Pakistan, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam and Indonesia, 68% of people believe that their community is at medium-to-high risk of extreme weather events and 87% believe that changes in weather and the availability of food and water will significantly impact their lives.

5 years is a long time, 5 years of memories, more than a lifetime of stories. Over five years of sewing, you listen to an absurd amount of music. To us, the years and experience are best to dwell upon with the music we loved at the time. What song got us through nights of sewing, psyched on bouldering trips, and primarily, the song enjoyed over the days closing beer. Music is a favorite past time here at Granola, we would like to share some of our favorite records, spinning at the Granola HQ. Check in daily with @granolanowspinning on instagram!
